Complete Decongestive Therapy

Complete decongestive therapy is a two-phase program that is non invasive and the current gold standard for non-surgical lymphedema management.  Phase 1 focuses on reducing limb volume followed by a maintenance phase.  The maintenance phase is to promote successful long term management of lymphedema.  One of the most important component is compression therapy.  Poor compliance with compression and self management recommendations have been associated with increased swelling and progression of lymphedema into the advanced stages.

Electric Medicine

  • A wide variety of medical conditions have been successfully treated with electrical stimulation for nearly 2,000 years.

  • First reported application of electromedicine was completed by medical doctors in Greece.  Electrical impulses used for treatment of pain and circulatory disorders.  Electric eels were placed in foot baths.  Doctors documented substantial therapeutic results with electrical currents in both pain and circulatory conditions.

  • 1700’s European physicians used controlled electric currents almost exclusively for the treatment of pain and circulatory dysfunction.

  • Late 1800’s more than 50% of all American physicians used some form of electromedicine in their practices daily for pain management and wound healing.
